Hello fellow game fishers.

Weather and Lake Closure Update

The past month has been a challenging one for the club with persistent rain across Dorset. As many of you will have seen, water levels across local rivers, fields, and roads have been consistently high. Unfortunately, these conditions have had a direct impact on our lake at Winterborne Zelston. Groundwater levels and surface flooding in the area meant that access has become increasingly difficult and, in places, unsafe. With water continuing to sit on the surrounding land and little opportunity for it to drain away quickly, the decision has been made to keep the lake closed for the time being.

This is not a step we take lightly, but the safety of members and the protection of the fishery must come first. Continuing rain over recent weeks has made the banks soft and vulnerable, and vehicle movement in the village during flooding has also been a concern for local residents.

We will continue to monitor the situation closely and reopen the water as soon as conditions allow. Thank you to everyone for your patience and understanding while the weather does its worst.

February 26th Work Party - Rawlsbury

This Thursday we will be holding a work party to ensure that the lakes are in good order for the beginning of Rawlsbury season. If you would like to attend and are not on our work party WhatsApp group you are welcome to contact me or Bob Spurgeon on bob.spurgeon@live.co.uk. if you intend to join us.

March 1st Rawlsbury.

The season at Rawlsbury starts on the 1st March. At this time of year, the track down to the lakes is always very slippery so proceed with caution. Can I remind you to sign in at the farm as usual as this is part of our lease condition.

March 7th Rawlsbury.

Please take note that on Saturday 7th March at Rawlsbury we are hosting an event for the Poole & Wimborne Fly fishing Club. There will be at least 16 fishermen, so the lakes will be very busy and parking difficult.

March 10th Annual Meeting - Royal British Legion Hall, Corfe Mullen at 19.30.

The Game section will be holding its Annual Meeting on Tuesday the 10th March. During this meeting we will review the 2025 season and look at how it has performed in comparison to previous years. Members will have the opportunity to discuss the past season and plans for the year ahead. Finally, with the lakes closed there were no fishing reports, no rods bent and the trout remain undefeated!

Tight Lines Paul.
